Se aproximaba el invierno del año 1520. Un indio tehuelche vio unos "toldos" que flotaban en el mar. Unos hombres barbudos hacían señales que no podía entender: cantó y danzó sobre la playa y se echó tierra sobre la cabeza en señal de desesperación. En la nave capitana Antonio Pigafetta, cronista de Magallanes, tomaba nota “de puño y letra” sobre esa danza y ese canto. El autor considera que la Patagonia es tierra manuscrita. Que los relatos de navegantes y aventureros construyeron una biblioteca descomunal y que la realidad de esos textos se convierte en magia ante los ojos del lector contemporáneo. Ha divulgado esta postulación en sedes universitarias, colegios y bibliotecas populares de la región. Este libro es el resultado de esa actividad. He sang and threw sand over his head as a sign of his despair. Antonio Pigafetta, Magellan’s chronicler, made note “by hand” of this dance and that song. The author considers that Patagonia is “hand-written land”. That the accounts of navigators and adventurers have created an immense library in which the written reality is read as magical.
